BOSTON – BackBay Communications, an award-winning financial services public relations agency, today announced it has been selected in a competitive RFP process as Global Financial Communications Agency of Record by the Alaska Permanent Fund Corporation (APFC), the largest sovereign wealth fund in the United States, with nearly $80 billion of assets under management.
The annual retainer contract focuses on BackBay working with APFC to develop and implement a 12-month plan to raise awareness of APFC’s news and insights with the financial media, including developing a media strategy, conducting proactive media relations and interview support, strategic messaging, and conference speaking and support. BackBay also seeks to underscore APFC’s important role as revenue generator for the state.
“We are thrilled to provide public relations services to the Alaska Permanent Fund Corporation,” said Bill Haynes, BackBay Founder & CEO. “APFC is well known and highly regarded amongst the institutional investment community for its savvy approach to public and private markets investing, and we seek to further elevate APFC’s insights and success. It is an honor to be selected by such an august institution.”
BackBay’s APFC team will be comprised of members of its Private Markets and Wealth & Asset Management teams. As a financial services PR specialist, BackBay has strong relationships with the asset management and private markets media, and has represented more than 125 private equity, private credit, real estate private equity, infrastructure, and venture capital firms in a variety of capacities, from ongoing outsourced public relations retainer relationships to projects such as brand messaging, announcing new fund formations, spinoffs, fund closings, new investments and exits, awards, and other firm news, as well as writing thought leadership articles for firm executives. In the last two years, BackBay has been named Best Private Equity PR Firm in The Drawdown Awards and Best Private Equity PR Firm in the Bloomberg/PE Wire European Awards. BackBay has also been a Top 10 Private Equity PR Firm in The Deal’s League Tables for the last 18 consecutive quarters.
“Through a competitive procurement, we are pleased to have selected BackBay Communications to be our global financial communications agency partner,” said Deven Mitchell, APFC’s CEO and Executive Director. “BackBay has the industry expertise, focus, experience, and team to partner seamlessly with our in-house group and Alaska-based partner.”
